The Railway Children’s Three Peaks Challenge by Rail, helps to raise life-changing funds for vulnerable children across the world. The event takes intrepid teams up all three of Britain’s highest peaks – Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis – in just two days, with a train providing the transport between mountains.
Railway Children has suffered huge losses due to the pandemic over the last 18 months, and had many of its fundraising events cancelled during the crisis.
The Three Peaks by Rail challenge has been running since 2004, bringing in hundreds of thousands of pounds for the charity. Last year was the first time the event had to be cancelled since it began. Thanks to the support of Porterbrook, who came on board as the headline sponsor in 2019, and VolkerRail, who is sponsoring food and refreshments for everyone taking part, organisers are determined to make the 2021 version better than ever.
Railway Children’s CEO, Terina Keene, said: “This is such great news, and we are so grateful to both Porterbrook and VolkerRail for joining forces to make sure this event goes ahead. We have had so much support from our rail family over the years, and this collaboration is just another example of the industry pulling together to make amazing things happen. We can’t thank both companies enough.”
Andrew Wilkins, VolkerRail finance director, said: “VolkerRail is proud to continue its support for this great charity who are doing incredible work – worldwide. We believe that it is vital to continue to raise awareness of the situation of vulnerable children, and the importance of reaching them as quickly as possible. As well as sponsorship, we also have a team taking part in the event, to help raise even more funds.”
