Why were you interested in the graduate scheme with Network Rail?

I spoke to someone who was about to start the scheme and learnt about the rotational placements Network Rail incorporate into the scheme. As I wasn’t sure which area of engineering I wanted to go into, I thought that spending time with several teams would be hugely beneficial. I also liked the thought of being part of a larger well-established organisation with lots of job opportunities around the UK.

What was the interview process like?

The interview process was well organised. It included psychometric testing and a video interview, before the final assessment in-person at an assessment centre. I enjoyed the assessment centre it was great meeting the other candidates and figuring out whether I could see myself working for Network Rail.

What advice would you give to candidates applying for the grad scheme?

Be honest in your application and play to your strengths. Make sure you have done some research into the company and why you would like to work there.

What tips and helpful information would you give graduates who are joining the grad scheme?

This is a unique opportunity to spend time with a wide range of teams and soak up knowledge from people who have years of experience. Be respectful, show up on time and ask questions. I would also assume you know nothing and every team member has a story to tell regardless of what they do. I got into a habit of keeping a diary of what I achieved/learnt each day and who I met – as with 40,000 employees it can be tricky to remember everyone’s name!
