…I got into the railway through an apprenticeship, which is something I hadn’t considered before. A girl I used to work with was looking into opportunities so I decided to do the same…and the next thing I knew, I was on the railway as an apprentice manager for the west coast!”

“I knew that I had been nominated but I completely forgot about it to be honest and never thought I’d win in a million years! It was a really nice surprise.”
“One of my biggest achievements has been taking on the role of event manager for a huge operational project that effected my area. I put together a 34-page plan and managed colleagues at nine different locations, as well as coordinating the rota and being onsite every morning at 04:30am for nine days. The project went as smoothly as possible and it’s something I’m really proud of.
“I’ve loved being able to get stuck in from day one and having the support of those around me. Working throughout the pandemic has been very challenging and continues to be an uncertain time but my focus is on boosting staff morale by being a positive presence at Worthing station.
“I’m so glad I found out about the apprenticeship scheme at GTR and would encourage others to also consider it – there are so many different routes to follow you are bound to find a career you love!”
